Each of the four different categories will have five examples of nouns that start with the letter D. The four categories are, fruits, meats, vegetables, and grains. Each noun will have a description of it beside it. And below will be an example of the noun being used in a sentence.
Fruits that Starts with D
Dewberry – blackberry-like fruits of any of several trailing blackberry bushes.
The dewberry, unlike the raspberry, grow along the ground rather than upright. And can be used for die.
Date -sweet edible fruit of the date palm with a single long woody seed.
The date palm, can be found in over ten countries; they’re very dry, and can be eaten whole.
Durian -huge fruit native to southeastern Asia `smelling like Hell and tasting like Heaven’; seeds are roasted and eaten like nuts.
The durian, has an odor that some find pleasing or revolting; and its nicknamed, King Of Fruits in southeast Asia.
Draggee -sugar-coated nut or fruit piece; silvery candy beads used for decorating cakes.
There are many forms of dragee, but it’s mainly used for cakes as decoration for cakes, and can even symbolize the sweet and bitterness that comes with love.
Dumpling – dessert made by baking fruit wrapped in pastry.
Though the dumpling itself isn’t a fruit, but recipes do call for the dumpling to have fruit inside, or meats and veggies.
Meats that Starts with D
Drippings -fat that exudes from meat and drips off while it is being roasted or fried.
In the British culture, fish and chips were fried in drippings.
Drumstick – the lower joint of the leg of a fowl.
The drumstick was being played with by the kids at the family table.
Ducklings -flesh of a young domestic duck.
The most consumed duckling in the U.S is the Pekin duck, often referred as the “Long Island” duck, but being of Chinese Origin.
Dove -flesh of a pigeon suitable for roasting or braising; flesh of a dove (young squab) may be broiled.
Doves and pigeons, have very little meat on them but very easy to pluck.
Vegetables that Starts with D
Dasheen -tropical starchy tuberous root.
The dasheen cannot be eaten raw, but it can be roasted, baked or boiled for culinary uses.
Dandelion green -edible leaves of the common dandelion collected from the wild; used in salads and in making wine.
The dandelion green are the perfect vegetable for all around nutrition.
Dill -aromatic threadlike foliage of the dill plant used as seasoning.
Dill is better when fresh, when it starts to dry it loses flavor as an herb.
