“That country looks like a boot.” The kid said about the Italian peninsula. A place that starts with I you’ll learn more about in the following article. And Italy won’t be the only place you’ll learn about, but countries within the continents Europe, Asia and Africa. But also Latin America. Each continent or region will have its definition and it’ll be used in a sentence to help you better understand it.
Europe
Iberia -a peninsula in southwestern Europe.
-an ancient geographical region to the south of the Caucasus Mountains that corresponded approximately to the present-day Georgia.
Iberia is the third largest peninsula in Europe, surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.
Italy -a republic in southern Europe on the Italian Peninsula; was the core of the Roman Republic and the Roman Empire between the 4th century BC and the 5th century AD.
Italy is the fifth most populous country in Europe and is a highly developed country.
Italian peninsula -a boot-shaped peninsula in southern Europe extending into the Mediterranean Sea.
Though it’s the smallest peninsula in Europe, the Italian peninsula is the most famous because of its boot shape that is made up of three countries.
Illyria -an uncertain region on the east shore of the Adriatic where an ancient Indo-European people once lived.
William Shakespeare chose Illyria as a setting for one of his plays.
Asia
Ilion -an ancient city in Asia Minor that was the site of the Trojan War.
Ilion is where the famous ambush with the Trojan horse happen.
India -a republic in the Asian subcontinent in southern Asia; second most populous country in the world; achieved independence from the United Kingdom in 1947.
India is the second most populated country in the world with a very diverse culture.
Israel-an ancient kingdom of the Hebrew tribes at the southeastern end of the Mediterranean Sea; founded by Saul around 1025 BC and destroyed by the Assyrians in 721 BC.
-Jewish republic in southwestern Asia at eastern end of Mediterranean; formerly part of Palestine.
Israel would begin to fight for independence on December 1, 1947.
Iraq -a republic in the Middle East in western Asia; the ancient civilization of Mesopotamia was in the area now known as Iraq.
Iraq established a monarchy and gained independence.
Indonesia -a republic in southeastern Asia on an archipelago including more than 13,000 islands; achieved independence from the Netherlands in 1945; the principal oil producer in the Far East and Pacific regions.
With a very high biodiversity, poverty remains widespread in Indonesia.

Ivory Coast -a republic in western Africa on the Gulf of Guinea; one of the most prosperous and politically stable countries in Africa.
After the election in 2010, Ivory Coast experienced a second civil war.
