Plants that Start with D
In the following section, there will be four categories for the plants that start with D. The four categories are, herbs, flowers, trees, jungle and swamps. The nouns within the categories will have its definition next to it and the noun will also be used in a sentence.
Herbs
Dipsacaceae -chiefly southern European herbs with flowers usually in dense cymose heads.
The head of the dipsacaceae is used for threading in some countries.
Dicentra -North American and Asian herbs with divided leaves and irregular flowers.
The dicentra herb grows irregularly, with either two or four petals. And the first two grow backwards.
Flowers
Droseraceae -a family of carnivorous herbs and shrubs.
There are three droseraceae, and the most famous one is the Venus Fly Trap.
Dandelion -any of several herbs of the genus Taraxacum having long tap roots and deeply notched leaves and bright yellow flowers followed by fluffy seed balls.
The dandelion is played by children to make a wish by blowing the flower head.
Daphne Family -family of trees and shrubs and herbs having tough bark that are found especially in Australia and tropical Africa.
The Daphne Family has been a very diverse family of plants with over 800 species.
Desmanthus -genus of American herbs or shrubs with sensitive pinnate leaves and small whitish flowers.
The desmanthus have a rather short growing season and need more than enough water and sunlight to grow.
Dogbane family -chiefly tropical trees or shrubs or herbs having milky juice and often showy flowers; many are sources of drugs.
Many of the trees or plants of the dogbane family are poisonous if eaten, but some can be used for drugs.
Trees
Dacrycarpus -evergreen coniferous shrubs or trees of New Zealand to Malaysia and Philippines.
The dacrycarous tree, houses many birds because it stands 60 meters.
Dipteryx -tropical American trees: tonka beans.
The dipteyx tree is a tree that grows a delectable seed used for food.
Dipterocarpaceae -chiefly tropical Asian trees with two-winged fruits; yield valuable woods and aromatic oils and resins.
Some species of the dipterocarpaceae are becoming endangered due to deforestation.
Diospyros -a genus of trees or shrubs that have beautiful and valuable wood.
Because of its valuable wood, or fruit, the diospyros tree is cut down often.
Dalbergia -large genus of tropical trees having pinnate leaves and paniculate flowers and cultivated commercially for their dramatically grained and colored timbers.
