Animals that Start with B

Bears, boas, and bees are animals that names start with the letter B. There are many other new animals’ names that you can learn and you can be sure these animals really exist!

Mammals that start with B

Babirusa: -Indonesian wild pig with enormous curved canine teeth.

-We were able to see a couple of babirusa at the Indonesia Zoo. To me, they looked so funny with their tall, thin legs and their fat bodies.

Berner: -large, powerful long-haired black-coated Swiss dog with deep tan or russet markings on legs and white blaze and feet and chest marking; formerly used for draft.

-I would love to have a Berner dog, but I doubt it fits in my apartment, maybe I should consider a smaller breed.

Bladdernose: medium-sized blackish-grey seal with large inflatable sac on the head; of Arctic and northern Atlantic waters.

-From all the seal species, bladdernose is one of the most aggressive species. Males can inflate their hood the size of a ball.

Bonobo: small chimpanzee of swamp forests in Zaire; a threatened species.

-Studies have shown that the Bonobo is one of the closest relatives of humans sharing almost 100% of DNA.

Broodmare: a female horse used for breeding.

-When Sheyla visited her grandparent’s ranch, from all the animals there, one took her attention. The black broodmare was pregnant.

Reptiles that start with B

Basiliscus: a reptile genus of Iguanidae.

-The guide explained us that the Basiliscus is also known as the Jesus Lizard because of its ability to run across water.

Blacksnake: blackish racer of the eastern United States that grows to six feet. -large harmless shiny black North American snake.

– There are around ten species of blacksnake. They occur on all continents predominantly in the United States and Australia.

Boidae: boas and pythons.

-Although the boidae are a nonvenomous family of snakes, they are too impressive, at first sight.

Birds that start with B

Bandtail: wild pigeon of western North America; often mistaken for the now extinct passenger pigeon.

-A large flock of bandtails flew over the forest. Flying together protect them from predators.

Bellbird: any of several tropical American birds of the genus Procnias having a bell-like call.

– People in New Zealand sure could recognize a bellbird from other birds. Its song has been described as the sound of bells.

Biddy: young bird especially of domestic fowl. -adult female chicken.

-The class went on a field trip to a biddy farm. They were able to see and feed the chicks with some corn.

Bluebill: diving ducks of North America having a bluish-grey bill.

-As the bluebill swam alone in the lake, the old lady got closer; she stood still there just admiring it.

Bluethroat: songbird of northern Europe and Asia.

-The bluethroat impressed the bird watchers with its brilliant blue plumage on the throat. It’s a beautiful bird.

Insects and Critters that start with B

Backswimmer: predaceous aquatic insect that swims on its back and may inflict painful bites.

Backswimmers aren’t just good swimmers! They also like to fly at night when they are attracted to artificial lights.

Bittacidae: a family of predacious tropical insects of the order Mecoptera.

-Have you ever heard of a scorpionfly? Well, the bittacidae are commonly named as scorpionflies or hangingflies.

Bollworm: any of various moth caterpillars that destroy cotton bolls.

-These little creatures eat fruit crops but what the bollworm likes most is to eat cotton bolls.

Brachinus: bombardier beetles.

-The brachinus receives its name from its peculiar defense system, ejecting a liquid from the anus with an exploding sound.

Bruchidae: seed beetles.

-Just in Mexico, one hundred and six species of bruchidae are found.
