The wide variety of foods available for us is impressive. Have you ever heard about an elver? Or an endive? The list of foods that start with E is shorter than others, but I’m sure there are some interesting nouns in there.

Fruits that start with E

 

Eggfruit: -ovoid orange-yellow mealy sweet fruit of Florida and West Indies.

– When you cut an eggfruit by the middle, halves have a hearted shape.

 

Emperor: red table grape of California.

Emperor grapes are tasty, but they have tiny seeds inside. To keep them fresh store them in the fridge.

 

Empire: an eating apple that somewhat resembles a McIntosh; used as both an eating and a cooking apple.

– The empire apples are the result of a cross between McIntosh and Red delicious apples.

 

Meats that start with E

 

Elver: young eel; may be sauteed or batter-fried.

– Baby eels or elver are considered a gourmet food. They are very expensive.

 

Entrecote: cut of meat taken from between the ribs.

-To prepare a perfect entrecote, first smoke it for a few minutes, and then grill it for about one minute per side.

 

Escallop: thin slice of meat (especially veal) usually fried or broiled. Edible muscle of mollusks having fan-shaped shells; served broiled or poached or in salads or cream sauces.

– Venison escallops are ideal for barbecues or as a quick frying steak.

 

Ecrevisse: -tiny lobster-like crustaceans usually boiled briefly.

Ecrevisse is a very famous seafood in France.

 

Vegetables that start with E

 

Eggplant: egg-shaped vegetable having a shiny skin typically dark purple but occasionally white or yellow.

Eggplants could be purple, white, or yellow-orange. It is known that eggplants are originary from India.

 

Estragon: fresh leaves (or leaves preserved in vinegar) used as seasoning.

-I love the taste of red vinegar combined with olive oil and estragon.

 

Edda: tropical starchy tuberous root.

Edda root also known as taro root; it’s poisonous if eaten row.

 

Endive: variety of endive having leaves with irregular frilled edges.

Endives are one of the most difficult veggies to grow.

 

Ecballium: exploding cucumber; squirting cucumber.

-The ecballium is not the cucumber I am used to eating.

 

 

Grains that start with E

 

Espresso: -strong black coffee brewed by forcing hot water under pressure through finely ground coffee beans.

– The woman picks an espresso every day at the same place and time.

 

Eleusine coracana: -East Indian cereal grass whose seed yield a somewhat bitter flour, a staple in the Orient.

– The Eleusine coracana is best known as finger millet.

 

Emmer: hard red wheat is grown especially in Russia and Germany; in United States as stock feed.

– She bakes some delicious emmer English muffins.

 

Ear: fruiting spike of a cereal plant especially corn.

– I smashed the ears to prepare a paste. Then I combined it with water to prepare some tasty tortillas.
